Introduction

Disaster risk reduction is an ongoing process of planning, decision-making and promotion of actions before, during and after the occurrence of a destructive or catastrophic event. It cannot be seen as an activity that is dependent upon isolated actions or actions determined by the situation but as a component that is applicable across the board to all activities within a territory: it is part of the overall process of local development and local strategic planning.

This course is aimed at key players in local development management and disaster risk reduction, such as policy and decision-makers and practitioners.

The course is delivered using distance-learning methods through the use of information and communication technologies and face-to-face lessons in Turin.

Each participant receives the constant support of a specialised teaching team and, through the Delnet virtual campus, is able to call on a tool for monitoring and developing his or her learning processes: the Virtual Classroom.

The classroom offers all elements required to ensure that course participation is an enriching experience, enabling participants to find, in one easy-to-use space, all training content, information, and advice on how to successfully keep up with the pace of learning and also tools for direct communication with course tutors and colleagues.

Participants who pass the course are awarded a Diploma issued by the International Training Centre of the ILO.
